Ames (Oliver) House is built.

Architect: Carl Fehmer. It is located at 355 Commonwealth Avenue (60 Massachusetts Avenue). Called by Bainbridge Bunting “The first of the Boston chateaux,” it one of the most lavish homes in Boston and serves as the winter home of the investor and future governor (his summer home is an estate in North Easton). The building is purchased by the National Casket Company, remodeled by Chapman & Frazer, and converted to commercial and office use in 1926.
